juggler or hub?
a question that got me re-thinking.
while common wisdom / advice is tethered to the notion that one should have a balanced approach to life, its approach is unfortunately narrow. amidst the plethora of commitments, meetings and what-nots that i need to see to, i find myself trying to juggle each component as evenly as possible. so instead of being the activist that i should really be, i end up being the clown within the four walls of the church, making a spectacle of my ability to juggle the numerous commitments that i hold on to.
“but isn’t that how things are?”, questions my inner self, hoping for a respite from the need to die. “the arenas of church and play operate by different rules!”, shouts the throned self.
oh, how i wished that my discernment would not invalidate the cries from the inner self – but yet in a bitter sweet manner, i know that the Lord is accomplishing His work within me.
the hub of the wheel is the one that brings power and energy to the rest of the wheel – the fulcrum that moves an inch, drives the wheel by a feet. the spokes exist to transfer the force from the hub to the wheel, proving its worth for being called one of the most important inventions in history. shouldn’t then life be in this manner? where God takes the place of the hub, whilst the exploits of life forming the spokes of the wheel. taking its bearings from the hub, the chief end of the spokes are to amplify the force; our occupations, relationships, ministries and every other nuances should be fixated with the chief end of glorifying God. it is then from there, where everything else makes sense and falls into place.
